• Access to Justice Impact: 610 women in Northern Uganda received legal aid, protection, and advocacy, with an 88% case resolution rate.
• Menstrual Health is a Human Right! 49 schools in Northern Uganda improved girls’ access to menstrual products and education, helping reduce barriers to learning.
• Agriculture and Food Security: 367 women farmers increased crop yields by 45% and household income by 38% through climate-smart farming and financing.

The Healthy Periods Initiative highlights the profound transformation taking place across 49 schools in Northern Uganda through the strategic distribution of high-quality disposable sanitary pads coupled with comprehensive Menstrual Health Management (MHM) and education. Impact: Local Food Economies Work!

During one of the worst droughts in decades, 567 women smallholder farmers in Uganda still achieved a 45% average increase in seasonal crop yields and a 38% boost in household net income through access to climate-smart agricultural inputs, micro-financing, and direct market links. As the drought continues and is expected to worsen, WGEF remains vigilant in climate adaptation and smart food storage strategies to stave off increasing food insecurity. Gulu Menstrual Health Hygiene Run 2026

An unprecedented coalition—329 local leaders, parents, teachers, young girls, and, significantly, men and boys—ran and walked together through the heart of Gulu, loudly debunking the deep-seated stigma surrounding periods and sending a powerful wave of validation across the region.

It’s about dignity, PERIOD.

Program Highlights:

• WGEF distributed over 9.7m+ sanitary products to women and girls
• We are supporting 27 schools from 6 districts; each school receives boxes every month
• 12,000 packs delivered to 3 refugee settlement camps monthly
• New microenterprise groups are producing and selling Lucky Girls Sanitary Products in their communities.
• Providing critical information and menstrual health education to schools, camps, community with every delivery.
• Partnering with Gulu University Medical School; having a participating doctor at every delivery to answer questions and host discussions on menstrual and reproductive health.

Menstrual Health is a human rights issue, not just a health one.

What does climate justice have to do with gender justice?

Extreme weather and climate events are increasing across the world, but they don’t affect everyone equally, women are disproportionately impacted by climate chaos.

Because women are the food producers, carers of the family, and responsible for collecting water and cooking fuel, climate events impact
women and families most. They also face harsh economic impacts from environmental degradation, with women spending more household income on mitigating climate events and disasters.

Ways Women are Disproportionately Impacted by Climate Chaos

• Conflict: women are disproportionately impacted by conflict, increasing sexual violence, brutality, and femicide.
• Food and water scarcity: women are responsible for providing both for the family in many parts of the world.
• Displacement: women and families are displaced because of climate chaos and conflict due to resource exploitation and poverty.

WGEF supports women farmers, using organic, indigenous practices; creating local, sustainable food economies. Our initiatives are leading the way to a more just and food secure environment.
